The track "Manta Ray", taken from Buddy Award winner Eivind Aarset's critically acclaimed "Phantasmagoria, or A Different Kind of Journey" is the perfect choice for a remix by John Derek Bishop, aka Tortusa. Under the Tortusa moniker, Bishop has remixed Aarset before, and has collaborated with both Aarset and Arve Henriksen in various contexts. This remix of "Manta Ray" seemed predestined. The original's subaquatic vibes are translated into an entirely new language, as though the ocean floor was raised to become a rainforest. More rhythmically active, with brighter angular shaping replacing the languid fluidity of the original, the remix retains an organic feeling while imbuing the track with a fresh new spirit.

The eponymous debut by DSS is a work of considerable beauty, setting a defining benchmark in its foundation & upon which this sophomore builds exponentially, demanding the full attention of the listener & providing yet further joy & amazement at the supergroup's creative genius & talent. The single 'Life Standing Still' is delightful, but in my view it's 'Invocation' that really grabs & does indeed live up to the meaning of its title. A truly wonderful, mesmeric, interesting & escapist work. DoubleRR
